Afterlives: Maldraxxus
director Brian Horn has confirmed on Twitter that Draka visited another world in the cinematic to steal a map from the Legion.
Earlier in the Twitter thread,
Afterlives: Maldraxxus
writer Christie Golden tweeted about the role of Maldraxxus as a "house of spies" working to protect those who "would attack and destroy the Shadowlands." Could this refer to the Burning Legion threatening the Shadowlands in an abstract sense--if they destroyed Azeroth, there'd be no more new souls and anima? Or has the Burning Legion meddled directly in the Shadowlands, possibly when acquiring the Maw-touched artifacts for the Lich King?
The shot from

initially led some players to wonder if this was an intentional reference, as the cinematic doesn't explicitly mention the Legion. However, as we discussed in our analysis yesterday, it makes a lot of sense why the Necrolords would fight the Burning Legion, a threat which created the Scourge, acquired Helm of Domination and Frostmourne from the Maw, and wanted to destroy all life on Azeroth. There's also personal motivations for Draka, who died at the hands of the Shadow Council, a group allied with Gul'dan who served the Burning Legion.
Upon rewatching the cinematic, these subtle details add up to big implications--if the Burning Legion is a threat to Maldraxxus and Draka can leave the Shadowlands freely, could the Burning Legion have travelled to the Shadowlands and contributed to the cycle of death?
With this confirmation that Draka can travel between worlds, we're curious to see who else has made the journey and if this has led to any long-lasting impact on Azeroth. We've also seen Uther travel between worlds, confronting Arthas at the moment of his death at Icecrown Citadel.
So far both cinematics have highlighted how a threat from Azeroth's past intertwines with the Shadowlands (Arthas in Bastion, Burning Legion in Maldraxxus), and we're curious to see what other threats are revisited in the two remaining cinematics.
